What tests do doctors perform to determine reasons for hair loss?

In the last 8 months I started losing my hair very rapidly, and have developed bald spot. I have no idea why, and it's making me very depressed. I have read that it's a good idea to go to a doctor if you are experiencing rapid hair loss because it might be a sign of a disease or infection. I'm just wondering what kinds of tests doctors do to determine the cause of hair loss and how they tie those results back to any specific disease??What tests do doctors perform to determine reasons for hair loss?

I think they would start with the blood test. However, what I would like to tell you is that if you are not suffering from any specific problems or symptoms then quite possibly you may be suffering from Alopecia Areata generally termed as Spot Baldness. It has been known to have depressing effect on people suffering from it. But is very much treatable and if treated in time in most cases lost hairs do come back. I suggest you read this article below to learn more about this problem which would probably help you analyzing if you are suffering from it or not. In any case it is no replacement to medical test but should help you understand things better and probably help reducing stress related to it as well.

your doctor will run blood tests to enosure you are not ill or do not have thyroid or other problems. Unfortunately that is the way hair loss does develop sometimes. You can go from a full head of hair to rapid loss quite quickly.

f you are beginning to lose your hair there are several things you can do to stop it.

Eat a healthy diet. Hair is 95% protein and eating a diet with plenty of vitamins and proteins will not only make your hair look healthy but will

help you to keep it.

take hair supplements for There are many that contain all the vitamins and proteins your hair needs. the best ones contain DHT inhibitors that stop your body converting testosterone into DHT which is the cause of genetic hair loss.

Use a good shampoo. Ideally it should have a pH between 5 and 9.

Finally try and avoid stress, this is a major cause of hair loss and avoiding it will help you keep your hair on your head.
Hair loss can be caused by many things, including some medications, high fevers, hormonal changes, pregnancy, surgical shock, transplant surgery, poor diet (lacking in essential fatty acid, biotin, zinc, iron deficiency), anemia, aging, male pattern baldness, thyroid disease causing decreased thyroid levels (hypothyroidism), severe emotional stress, and autoimmune disease (disease that affects the body鈥檚 ability to recognize its own tissues, causing it to gradually destroy them).

If you're young and have no other sign of illness, talk to your doctor. A simple blood work can detect serious problems.
If your bald spots has smooth surface and is around the size of dime, then it might be Alopecia Areata. The doctors classifiy this disorder as an autoimmune disease. They would try to detect any abnormal volume of T-Cells or Lymphocytes aroud the affected area. This could narrow down the possibilities.
