What are reasons for hair loss?

I have been shedding evenly for about 4 months now (I said evenly so don't be annoying and state male pattern baldness). I have been to two docs and have had blood tests done. Its like the next scooby doo episode, its a damn mystery.

Please name all the possible reasons that I could be loosing my hair at such a young age (21)What are reasons for hair loss?
Have you ever heard of an autoimmune disease called alopecia? It can affect the hair in various ways. Alopecia areata runs in my family and has affected relatives in different ways, and a few years ago I developed a small patch about quarter sized, but in my case it reversed and I haven't had any signs since. I also know someone who has Alopecia Universalis but in the case of Universalis ALL body hair is affected...I mean as in no more eyebrows, lashes...nada. What you describe could be Alopecia areata incognita. It's hard to say, but check you fingernails for a lot of pitting or ridging. Nail problems show up a lot of times with the disease. Even though I am no longer affected by it on my scalp, my nails do show pitting and ridging, so I know it could come back on my scalp at any time. Here's a link that explains a few things about it...

The causes for hair loss are many. General reasons for hair loss are deficiency of hormone, ageing and heredity. Premature hair loss is due to stress, nutritional deficiency, genetic disorder, endocrine disorder and many others. Whereas the modern day causes for hair fall are air pollution, water pollution, dandruff, usage of shampoos and chemicals.

Other factors which trigger hair loss are poor circulation, radiation, acute illness, chemotherapy, high stress, thyroid imbalance, iron deficiency and improper care of hair. Women generally lose hair 2-3 months after giving birth to a baby. Birth control pills, excess of vitamin A and medicine used for anti-coagulant can also contribute in hair loss.

Often said it is difficult to prevent a hair loss. Treatments are available for hair growth which may help in hiding the baldness. The drugs generally prescribed for baldness are minoxidil, finasteride, corticosteroids and anthralin.
Howdy orange,

There are so many reasons you could be losing your hair although if the docs can't figure it out im not sure how usefull I can be but to offer my suggestions:

Stress

genetics (has your mother or father suffered from hair loss)

Medication (are you on anything at all)

Shampoo (have you changed from a regular one)

Drugs (the recreational type)

You've probably heard all these suggestions before but they are the main reasons.
